Cape Cod Beaches

Cape Cod is famous for its beautiful beaches and we have an amazingly diverse collection from those perfect for small children with calm, warm water to those for the experienced surfer looking for challenges and thrills, as well as some noted for excellent surfcasting.  There are beaches on Cape Cod Bay, Pleasant Bay, the Atlantic Ocean and Nantucket Sound.

Brewster Beaches    All Brewster beaches are on Cape Cod Bay and you may experience the Brewster Flats where the tide goes out a mile or so and you may walk out  and explore… but be careful!  When the tide turns the water comes in quickly.

*Breakwater Beach….. on Breakwater Road       parking fee

*Paines Creek Beach….. off  Route 6A                  parking fee and restrooms

Harwich Beaches

*Red River Beach…..off Depot Road or Uncle Venies Road from Route 28 on Nantucket Sound’s warm waters.

Chatham Beaches    Chatham has many great beaches from the warm waters of Nantucket Sound to the bracing Atlantic Ocean.

*Oyster Pond Beach…..Just a block from Main Street down Stage Harbor Road is this wonderful beach where generations have learned to swim.  This is a salt water pond with views of the boats moored there as well as some rather spectacular homes.  A perfect place for young children.  During the summer, every Sunday at 8 a.m. there is an ecumenical church service on the beach.  Free parking, lifeguard and restrooms.

*Hardings Beach…..Barnhill Road off Route 28 to Hardings Beach Road. A family favorite on Nantucket Sound, this is one of the most popular beaches in Chatham.  Lifeguard, restrooms, snack bar and parking fee.

*Lighthouse Beach and South Beach…..Rather obviously right in front of the lighthouse!  There is no parking here for more than 15 minutes.  This beach is on Pleasant Bay where the famous Chatham Break occurred in 1987 and the current can be quite strong.

*North Beach…..Take the shuttle boat from the Fish Pier and then walk over the sand dunes from Pleasant Bay to the Atlantic.  The beach goes for miles and there are very few people around…..this is a pristine wilderness at its finest!  For hardy souls, the ocean awaits…rarely is the water temperature out of the 60s!   Do notice the beach “camps” where families. have summered for years.  No facilities.

* Schoolhouse Pond…..Want freshwater swimming for a change?  This large kettle pond is the home of “Marco….Polo” and kids have a great time here with the shallow water and sandy beach.  Route 28 to Sam RyderRoad or Old Queen Anne Road to Sam Ryder Road.  LimitedParking.
